Moritzburg

castle

Moritzburg Castle is one of the most impressive castle ruins in central Germany. It was built at the end of the 15th century as the residence of the archbishops of Magdeburg, but was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War. Today, the castle serves as an impressive backdrop for the Moritzburg Art Museum and is home to numerous art treasures. Particularly worth seeing are the modern glass roofs over the ruins, which form an exciting contrast between history and contemporary architecture.
