Görlitz

The "film city" on the Neisse is one of the best-preserved architectural monuments in Europe with architecture from the Renaissance and Baroque periods

For centuries, what is now Germany’s easternmost city was an important trading center along the Via Regia and developed into a prosperous bourgeois town.
After World War II, Görlitz was divided by the Neisse River—the eastern part, now known as Zgorzelec, belongs to Poland.

Today, Görlitz is distinguished by an exceptionally well-preserved Old Town featuring buildings from the Gothic, Renaissance, and Wilhelminian periods. Visitors experience a cohesive historic cityscape here that is frequently used as a film set. At the same time, the city bridges German and Polish culture and has developed into an important cultural and tourist destination.

The new bridge was opened in 2004 as part of the EU's eastward expansion.
