More about Bayern
Sights, highlights, and background information about Bayern.
Oberschleißheim is located to the north of Munich and is known above all for its extensive palace grounds
The three palaces—the Old Palace, the New Palace, and Lustheim Palace—form an impressive ensemble of Baroque architecture, surrounded by expansive parks and waterways. Originally built as a summer residence for the Bavarian rulers, the site continues to reflect courtly grandeur and landscape design to this day. Today, history, art, and nature come together here to create a peaceful destination for day trips in the Munich area.
The Flugwerft is a branch of the Deutsches Museum and exhibits historical aircraft and the development of aviation. Visitors can experience the history of technology up close on the site of a former airfield.
Lustheim Palace is located on the edge of the baroque palace complex and was built as a hunting and pleasure palace. Today it houses a collection of Meissen porcelain. Visitors will discover an elegant example of baroque architecture.
The Old Palace is the oldest part of the Schleißheim palace complex. It originally served as the ducal residence and was later extended. Visitors can trace the development of the complex here.
The State Gallery in the New Palace exhibits important works of European painting, particularly from the Baroque and Rococo periods. The exhibition is embedded in the magnificent rooms of the palace. Visitors experience a close connection between art and architecture.
