Gengenbach in the Black Forest is one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in southern Germany and boasts a superbly preserved old town. Narrow streets, colorful houses, and historic squares define the townscape and create a special atmosphere. The town developed around a monastery as early as the Middle Ages and, thanks to its location, was largely spared from major destruction. Today, Gengenbach is also known for cultural events, such as the Advent calendar at City Hall.
