Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft

This extensive system of ponds, ditches and watercourses in the Harz Mountains was developed over centuries for the mining industry. Visitors can discover an impressive technical cultural landscape ensemble that combines nature and the art of engineering. Hiking trails lead along historic watercourses and through tranquil pond landscapes. The area has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, as it is one of the largest and oldest pre-industrial energy supply systems in the world and has had a decisive influence on the development of mining.
